Bromham Owls are going well - BOWLS: Title races hotting up

WITH the County Short Mat Bowls League approaching its half way stage, the title race in the North and South Leagues is extremely close.

In the South, Dinton Beeches and Durrington are tied on points with only a shot difference between the teams. Market Lavington and Upavon are a distant third and fourth.

The Northern League remains a tight affair with four teams still involved in the race for the North League title.

Three points separate the top four, with Trowbridge currently leading from Kington Langley, Bromham Owls and Crudwell.

In the Central Area, Westbury Blue Circle are forging ahead, being 11 points ahead of second-placed Dinton Oaks. Heywood and Hawkeridge lie in third place and have two games in hand.

In the next month, games between the top teams in each league will make the chase for each title a lot clearer.

Bromham Pudding Run raises £3k for school

Runners in this year’s Bromham Pudding Run at least had it dry when they set off on the 10k course around the village on Sunday morning.

Organisers had been round pumping out huge puddles, following torrential rain the night before, to give the 400 odd entrants a better chance of getting round in good time.

Judi McKendrick of the St Nicholas School PTA, who organise the run each year, said: “It was a little bit windy but you can’t have everything. It is December, after all.

“It was a great event and entry for it was full well before the race day. We have raised over £3,000 for school funds.”

The first runner home was John Bentley School student Simon Nott who finished in a time of 33 minutes 32 seconds. The first woman finisher was Holly Rush from Team Bath AC.

One late entrant was Andrew Craven from Bristol who ran the 10k dressed up as a Christmas pudding. He raised over £200 for the BBC’s Children In Need appeal.

The winners

Bromham U9's at Swindon Town

Well done and thanks to Kevin clark, manager of the Bromham U9's for taking the time to organise a visit to last satudays Swindon game v Leyton Orient.

Saturday's game was met with torrential rain but nothing could dampen the spirit of the youngsters who's own pre-match warm came courtesy of Burger King!

A super atmosphere with plenty of laughter from the lads who were convinced that the Swindon mascot was in fact a chicken, not a robin!

Swindon Town were in good form. It was commented that the hard work of new manager Danny Wilson was paying off and from where we were sat we couldn't agree more!

I did get the impression that some of our youngsters hold the idea that the 'big guys' skip pre-game warm ups so it was interesting watching the reaction from them as they observed the rigorous work outs from both Swindon and leyton Orient.

Organisation for the next visit will be underway in the new year giving all players at Bromham football club the oppertunity to visit the Swindon County Ground.

Bromham Owls are top
IN THE Wiltshire Short Mat South league, table-toppers Durrington and Dinton Beeches have pulled ahead of the rest, although Market Lavington remain within striking distance of the leaders.

Similarly in the Central League, three teams are making the running.

Heywood and Hawkeridge are top with Dinton Oaks second, although they have played more matches. Westbury Blue Circle lie third.

In the north, Bromham Owls are top with Trowbridge narrowly behind in second place. Crudwell are a distant third.

At the end of the winter season the winners of each of the County Leagues come together for a ‘round robin’ play-off to determine the County Champions.
