In 2006 Wiltshire County Council (WCC) issued a strategy document, which details for the whole of
Wiltshire, where mineral deposits are held, which could be extracted. This document has recently been replaced by an actual proposal on areas for extraction, i.e. sand quarrying, and subsequent landfill.
The current proposal for the Calne area includes large areas of Bromham - Rowde and Chittoe and surrounding areas. From a much larger total, approx. 18 million tons will come from Bromham over a 16-year period. This is potentially nearly 800,000 huge lorries or nearly 50,000 a year or 190 every day.
We as residents need to protect our village, our livelihoods, our countryside and our future by registering objections. Only if enough objections are raised will there be a chance of the proposals not going ahead.
Don't think it won't happen and don't assume that it won't affect you. Only if we all pull together, we can stop the plans. Spread the word and, most importantly, register your objections now.
Time is precious. Deadline to register your objections is 31 October 2010. Don't waste another minute!
