CHAIRMAN’S REPORT FOR BROMHAM TWINNING ASSOCIATION AGM. 18th NOVEMBER 2009.
Our main fundraising event this year was our Pudding Afternoon on 26th April. This was quite successful & due to notice boards being displayed on the main road, we attracted passing visitors – even from Bristol.
We were sadly not able to participate in the Twinning meeting in Ingrandes in May, but we were all very busy with the elections at that time. Our friends from Lack joined those in Ingrandes & a wreath was laid on our behalf on the grave of a British serviceman. We will have to have a rethink about our journey arrangements to Ingrandes as the flights which were so convenient for us from Southampton no longer operate. We are hoping to go to visit them next year.
A party of 13 of us went to Avoca from 25th to 29th September by mini bus. We were made very welcome and have hopefully reignited the twinning link. They are hoping to hold an Avoca Day next year to celebrate the birthday of Thomas Moore and have invited us to attend. We are hoping to establish a link by e-mail with the children in Avoca through Tony Fitzpatrick, who was contacting the teacher there, plus Mary Brennan & our Bromham children - then also with Ingrandes.
We are holding a get together at The Homestead, when all members are invited to bring any photos from past twinning visits and to enjoy wine & nibbles. We have extended invitations to all the organisations & clubs in Bromham to join our Twinning Association, but have not been successful as yet, we do need to attract new members & committee members too. Invites will be sent out for our ‘get together’ so perhaps members could personally invite any friends who they feel would be interested.
It just remains to me to give our committee my sincere thanks, particularly to Arthur & Rosalind, for your hard work & support during this year & also to the people of Bromham who attend our fundraising events, together with Bridget Luke for her help in improving our French language skills.
