Golden year for Bromham carnival

The culmination of Bromham Carnival is on Saturday with the procession.

This year is the carnival’s 50th anniversary and to mark the special occasion the organisers are appealing for past Bromham Carnival queens to come along.

Carol Clarke, joint carnival secretary, said: “We are hoping to have a float for former carnival queens so they can take part in the procession. We have had about six past carnival queens contact us so far but it would be good to see as many as possible.”

Hundreds of people watch the procession that sets off from the Pound playing field in Bromham at 2pm. Those taking part in the procession assemble at 1.15pm in time for the judging at 1.30pm.

Devizes samba band Oi Sambistas!, the Wyvern Band and Britannia Majorettes are among the entertainers who will be in the procession alongside local people who will be walking or on floats.

The procession finishes at the Jubilee Field by the Social Centre where the carnival fair will be opened by this year’s carnival queen, Georgina Parkin, 15.

On the field will be a fun fair, various stalls including stocks, a barbecue and beer tent.

The entertainment continues in the evening, from 5pm to midnight, when local bands play for free in Bromfest.
