Monday Club news

MONDAY CLUB NEWS

Recent weeks have witnessed bags and bags of lovely contributions being brought into the club towards our shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.  It’s surprising how everything gels together when you pool resources – we ended up with 22 filled boxes, and quite by chance we had 11 for girls and 11 for boys!  Thank you very much to all those within the club, and also others outside, for all your amazing offerings.

Talking of thank yous, we have again been fortunate to receive a £100 donation from Bromham Parish Council, for which we are very grateful.

Some time ago we were supported by Wiltshire Council to purchase a Wii sport for the club – this was to encourage “active aging” for us golden oldies.  Well I’m pleased to report that skills are definitely developing in this area over time.  We tend to major on the ten pin bowling, and with the introduction of a small trophy as encouragement we have a running competition for the highest score.

Sometimes of course we just sit back and take it easy, as we did on the week that Scott came back to entertain us.  As usual he perched himself up on his stool, having chosen a varied mix of songs for us, and proceeded with a performance which was well rehearsed and very easy on the ear.

December dawned, and on the 5th we had arranged with Kevin that we would have our Christmas lunch at the Greyhound. Fortunately it was a dry crisp and sunny day and so quite a few were able to walk down the road in comfort.  As all our helpers and drivers as well as some guests were included, there were 33 of us in total, and the tables were all laid out ready for our arrival.  Having settled in with a drink we were served with a good traditional turkey roast with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding.  Well filled, we trundled back to the Social Centre for a leisurely game of bingo, followed by cups of tea and delicious mince pies (home made by Sheila).

We have two more club days before Christmas at the time of writing, when we look forward to a visit from the children of St. Nicholas’ School with some seasonal entertainment.  We will have a two week break then, and reconvene on January 9th 2012.

We send Christmas Greetings to all our many friends and supporters, and wish you all a Happy New Year.

We still have room for more members if you could do with a bit of company each week. If you would like to join us on a Monday at the Social Centre do give me a ring.  We can provide transport if you live in Bromham or Rowde.
